I need to handle, i.e. read, write, store and search, mail in maildir or maildir++ format.
Mail must be stored on my mac, that is, reading and storing maildir on a server, via IMAP would not be good for my use case.
I am aware Thunderbird can handle 'almost-ready' maildir format, but it still has a few bugs.
Also, Thunderbird is still non completely maildir-compatible.
I am aware of this question, but it does not apply to my case, as I need to be able to store messages in maildir or maildir++ proper format on my mac.
Is there a mail app handling maildir in a reliable manner, without resorting to the terminal?

I can only suggest that you run a local mailserver on your Mac using Parallels and on there you create a virtual machine being Ubuntu Linux. Strip down the install so you have Dovecot, Postfix and Getmail, and of course the GUI bits. you can then instruct Thunderbord to read mail from Maildir store. I had this done and it works perfectly. One caveat though is that the VM MUST be able to connect to the client. otherwise you end up with a mailstore that is not accessible by Thunderbird, nor can it retrieve Internet email. YMMV depending on Linux knowledge.

I have searched far and wide, and it seems there are no GUI apps that do what I need. But, as of 3 April, it seems Postbox supports maildir.
We've changed the default storage format from mbox to Maildir.
Postfix For Mac

I'm looking for a way to change the voice with a shortcut:going in to settings->accessibility->Speech and setting the voice 'Alex'take's to long.
Does anyone know a terminal command? Or a way to change it with a keyboard shortcut?

Have a look at https://github.com/mklement0/voices. Voices is a command line tool for changing the default text-to-speech voice. But the author of the tool warns that:
As of macOS 10.12 (Sierra), there is no documented programmatic way to change the default voice. Thus, this utility makes use of undocumented system internals, which, unfortunately, means that future compatibility of this feature is uncertain.
But at the moment, it seems to work with the latest Sierra version.

I found that OS X's text-to-speech feature is actually a really nice way to keep reading uninterrupted, and most people probably don't even realize how easy it is.
Just open up System Preferences, go to the Speech pane, and hit the Text to Speech tab. Check the 'Speak selected text when the key is pressed' box, and set the key to something simple (I use Command+Shift+R). Then, when you're browsing the web, just select the article you want read and hit your shortcut to hear it read out loud. I've found the default voice of Alex is best, and isn't distractingly computer-sounding.

Ok, I think it now has to do with the fact that my documents are in WordPerfect 12. When I typed a test document and searched in Word it worked fine. So now my question is, is there a way to get it to find words in documents in WP 12? It can find files named the word I'm looking for, but if the word is in the document, it's not finding it.
When I open this ppt file in PP 2011, it seems that the speed set in PP 2003 is retained. I guess the problem is just that I have not been able to find out where I set this speed.
